Why Cycle to Work?
Cycling has many environmental, economic and health benefits for you and your family.
You will:
• Become healthier, more productive and less stressed
Regular physical activity can prevent cardiovascular disease, type two diabetes, osteoporosis, bowel cancer. It can also help with stress management, alleviate anxiety, enhance mood and boost mental alertness.
• Have the opportunity to incorporate physical activity into your daily life
Many of us are too busy to do exercise, but spend hours per week stuck in traffic on our way to work. Why not ride to work and kill two birds with one stone?
• Save money
Cycling has a very low capital outlay cost (average $500 - $1000) and a very low (almost negligible) operating cost per kilometre i.e. $100 yearly for a service.
• Generate almost zero greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions while traveling
Motor vehicles also generate around 40 per cent more greenhouse gas per kilometre for short trips. Only the bicycle can match (or perhaps exceed) the car’s flexibility and speed for short trips.
• Reduce local motor vehicle congestion and increase local amenity
More bicycles on the road leads to less traffic congestion and noise pollution.
