Frequently
Asked Questions
Question: The team has
asked how do you judge who wins the bike prizes - do teams
win them or do you select individuals?
Answer: Individuals are randomly selected to win the
bike prizes. You earn more chances to win by riding at least
once each week and by recruiting new members to your team
during the Challenge.
Question: I have filled
out the entry form for the whole team - do they need to fill
it out individually or does the one I filled in cover them
all?
Answer: Use the entry form to register the whole
team. Team members do not need to register individually.
Question: Please advise
the difference between a recruited novice and an original
novice, as given on the score calendar spreadsheet.
Answer: Your team has registered your riders as
novice or experienced on the entry form. When you recruit NEW
novice riders for your team during the Challenge mark them as
Recruited Novices.
Question: Can you please
provide clarification (guidance) on what is and
isn't allowed for claiming/recording kms?
Answer: Record all your kms you ride to work. You
can include your recreational kilometres especially when
replacing a car trip. You can also add your family and
friends' kms when they ride with you. So keep track on the
weekend as well as during the week. Make sure you recruit
these extra riders and show their kms under their name. Don’t
add their kms to your tally. One exception - don’t include
the kms of other people in large training group rides, just
your kms and your team members kms in that group.
The Challenge is based around your Bike to Work team and the
team members you encourage to ride. Example: If you and your
friend ride 100kms before work this can be counted as a trip
to work the long way round. Just make sure that each rider’s
individual kms are recorded against his name on the Weekly
Score Calendar.
Question: Do the friends
and family need to be documented separately on the score
sheet or just amalgamated with the team members score?
Answer: Record each individual’s kms against their
own name. Don’t amalgamate other riders kms to your score.
These extra riders are recruits.
Question: How do I add
members to my team?
Answer: Add new team members by recording them with
their kms on the weekly score calendar. Mark whether they are
Recruited Novices or Experienced riders.
Question: How many team
members can I have
Answer: Teams are encouraged to recruit as many team
members possible. This is why we recommend just 3 members to
start with, and then recruit new team members. Teams can
start with any number of riders.
Question: When I
registered online, I could only register 6 people, but there
are 10 in our team. How do I register the others?
Answer: Register the first six riders then use the
form again to register more riders for your team using the
same team details.
Question: I was wondering
if it was too late to add other team members? And if so how
do I go about doing this?
Answer: Its never too late to enter more teams or
add extra riders. Just add new team members by recording them
with their kms on the Weekly Score Calendar. Mark whether
they are Recruited Novices or Experienced riders.
Question: Can riders
claim after work and weekend rides?
Answer: Yes, record all your kms you ride to work.
You can include your recreational kilometres especially when
replacing a car trip. You can also add your family and
friends' kms when they ride with you. So keep track on the
weekend as well as during the week. Make sure you recruit
these extra riders and show their kms under their name. Don’t
add their kms to your tally. One exception - don’t include
the kms of other people in large training group rides.
Question: I've just
entered our team into the challenge, however I am interested
on finding out how to recruit other novices into the team
during the competition and how do we update the system such
that it knows that we have recruited more novice members?
Answer: Add new team members by recording them with
their kms on the weekly score calendar. Mark whether they are
Recruited Novices or Experienced riders. Encourage and
recruit your new members from your workplace or from other
workplaces.
Question: Do our km's
only total only from our original 3 team members and is
unaffected by the new novice recruits? Please let me know how
it works?
Answer: Each rider you recruit needs to be recorded
on the Weekly Score Calendar with their own kms recorded
alongside their name. Mark whether they are Recruited Novices
or Experienced riders. All riders in the team, with their
kms, will be shown on your team graphs on the website results
pages.
Question: I have a
volunteer who is volunteering everyday of the week for the
next month and would like to join our cycle team. Is this
okay or do team members need to be employees?
Answer: The Challenge is based around your Bike to
Work team and the team members you encourage to ride. You can
recruit new members from any workplace or work situation.
Some teams comprise of riders from different companies. So
recruit him now.
Question: I have a
question about classifying experienced or novice riders. I
have not cycled to work in 5 years, but actually started
cycling several times a week 4 weeks ago, so what would be my
classification?
Answer:
I would say you were a novice 4 weeks ago and so are still a
novice. You just started the bike to Work Challenge 4 weeks
early. Do you feel like an experienced rider or a novice on
the rise?
Question: We have
cyclists that have ridden in perhaps only a handful of times
in the past year, but are now riding several times a week,
would they be experienced or novice?
Answer:
They weren't regular riders so they are novices unless they
feel they should be classed as experienced. If you are in
doubt, class yourself as a novice.
